❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What is MoonPilot?

At the moment of writing, MoonPilot is a loose idea to build a macOS native trading app that has the specific features that I want. I won’t enumerate these here but there will probably be some information on the About page.

Why are you building MoonPilot?

  • To scratch an itch
  • To add custom desired features that are difficult or impossible to add to exisiting software
  • To improve the landscape of macOS trading apps
  • For fun!

Are you a guru trying to sell me a course?

No.

Can I have a copy?

No.

I don’t want to be responsible for you blowing your life savings on the latest meme stock!

Can you tell me how to invest my money?

No.

Do you plan on supporting BTC/ETH or other crypto?

Possibly.

The initial focus will be on equities but I’m also keen to explore other markets once the core functionality is built out.

Can I buy a copy?

No.

First of all, this is a projct which is in development, so there is nothing to buy!

Maybe one day this could change, but right now it seems unlikely. Selling this would necessarily convert it from a hobby to a business which would require dedicated time to support and maintain it. This would only be possible if the revenue it generated was sufficient to cover these costs to ensure any customers had a positive experience and derived value and satisfaction from MoonPilot. As a pretty personalised hobby project I don’t see this app having much broad appeal.

Why are you documenting this?

  • To explore building something “in the open”
  • As motivation—even if no-one reads it
  • To help build a journalling habit

Will you make it run on Windows?

No.

  • I don’t use or enjoy Windows
  • Windows already has plenty of trading apps
  • I’m intending to use Apple specific frameworks

Will you make it run on Linux?

No.

  • I’m intending to use Apple specific frameworks

Why don’t you use Electron?

I could write for days on this topic. Suffice to say I am forced to use Electron at my day job and have no desire to use it in on my own time.
